WIEDERHOEFT SS27

“QUEENS”

In the dark, Statue Watchers hold vigil over a monument to the queen who came before. Forced to leave their planet, Silk, the ascendant queen, and her attendants arrive to honour her predecessor. Then the room wakes, pool by pool of light, and the last procession of their race comes through arrayed in their finest. When the floor has cleared, the future queen is carried out and led away, and the Statue Watchers stay behind to keep their guard.

I wanted the film to move at the speed of the clothes, and to drink in every exquisite detail. I wanted the garments to speak and the camera to answer: a loving voyeur at the edge of the light. The pace mirrors the queens themselves, unhurried and certain, there to be enjoyed rather than explained.

Jackson Wiederhoeft created a beautiful spectacle.
